Chicago Fire Season 13 Secretly Reveals Matt Casey’s True Firehouse 51 Replacement
Chicago Fire season 13, episode 7 confirms Matt Casey’s replacement in Firehouse 51 with an unexpected character. Alongside Eammon Walker and Taylor Kinney, Jesse Spencer served as the face of One Chicago’s inaugural show for its first decade. So, while Chicago Fire and its bigger universe are well-adjusted when it comes to cast shuffling, losing Casey was a massive blow to NBC and Wolf Entertainment’s Windy City franchise. The good thing was, even after Spencer left the project, he returned a few times to reprise his fan-favorite role as Chicago Fire figured out his romance with Sylvie Brett.

Once the universe finally decided what to do with the slow-burn romance, Chicago Fire finally wrote out Casey for good in season 12. Technically, Spencer can still return to visit Firehouse 51, but unlike when Brett was still the PIC of Ambo 61, there’s no longer any urgent reason for him to go to the Windy City. While the firehouse remains effective in its job of responding to emergencies, Chicago Fire season 13 needs to replace the dynamic that was lost when Casey and Severide were separated, and it seems like they found a way to finally do so.
Severide’s Cigar Scene Reveals Pascal Is Casey’s Chicago Fire Replacement
Casey Used To Share Cigars With Severide In Chicago Fire
Chicago Fire season 13 introduced Chief Wallace Boden’s replacement, Dom Pascal. The new Firehouse 51 chief had a rocky start in his tenure, unfortunately. After some heated moments with some of his most notable squad members, the first-responder procedural teamed up Pascal with Severide in an arson case. The pair’s work continues in “Untouchables,” which ends in a case closed for the pair. Surprisingly, however, Chicago Fire season 13, episode 7 ends with Severide smoking cigars with Pascal in front of the firehouse — an activity that he used to do with Casey.
…Severide may find the friendly and almost brotherly dynamic that he had with Casey in Pascal.
In the past, Severide and Casey used their time smoking to either unwind or discuss something important. Admittedly, seeing Taylor Kinney’s character doing the same with Pascal is a bit off-putting, but aside from the visual, it’s also a potential signifier of the dynamic that the pair will develop moving forward. When they first met, both weren’t fans of each other, but working on the arson case and realizing that they have more similarities than differences helped them. In terms of relationships, Severide may find the friendly and almost brotherly dynamic that he had with Casey in Pascal.
