Many people would be terrified to see a huge spider crawling into their car. But Skye Molyneux isn’t one of them.

One rainy day, Molyneux and her husband were driving near their home in Australia when they noticed a huntsman spider crawling around the mirror of the passenger side of the car. When the spider crept towards the open window, they didn’t stop him from stepping inside.

“I knew he was just trying to get out of the rain and so was happy to let it in,” Molyneux told The Dodo.

When the spider approached her, Molyneux stretched out her fingers to greet him. The spider stepped forward and touched Molyneux, almost as if he was greeting her back. Then the spider backed away.

“I know that they are harmless and probably more scared of us,” Molyneux said.

The spider explored more of the car, crawling over the dashboard and tentatively stepping towards the steering wheel. Molyneux’s husband also stretched out his hand to the spider, but the spider did not approach him.

Molyneux filmed the encounter and posted a reel on Facebook. The video went viral, getting thousands of views and comments.

Molyneux said she ultimately hopes the video will give “a little insight” into the nature of huntsman spiders, who she said are not at all dangerous.

“I can understand that people that don’t grow up around huntsman don’t know that they are pretty harmless,” Molyneux said. “Hopefully this video gives a little insight to their nature.”
