“You’re Scaring My Girlfriend” — A Flight Turns Ugly
Carla boarded her flight quietly, hoping to go unnoticed. After a devastating car accident a month earlier, the long scar running down her face was still healing — red, shiny, and impossible to hide. Though her doctors called it “early scar tissue,” strangers called it something else entirely with their stares and whispers.
She took a window seat, put on her headphones, and closed her eyes, desperate for peace. The hum of the engines calmed her — until raised voices jolted her awake.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” a man’s voice snapped. “These are our seats?”
Carla turned slightly. A couple stood in the aisle beside her — both scowling. The man’s expression twisted as his eyes met hers.
“Can’t you see you’re scaring my girlfriend?” he barked, loud enough for nearby passengers to hear. “Cover your face or move to the back!”
His girlfriend clutched her sweater over her mouth. “How did they even let her board?” she sneered.
Carla froze. Her heart pounded as the man waved down a flight attendant. “Move her. She’s upsetting us,” he demanded.
The cabin went silent. Passengers shifted uncomfortably, pretending not to hear but listening all the same. The flight attendant’s expression changed instantly — from polite professionalism to something cold and sharp. Without a word, she turned and headed straight for the cockpit.
