“Rescue Triumph: Elderly Dog Jordan Overcomes Neglect and Cancer with Life-Saving Amputation”
On September 22, the animal rescue organization GWARP was alerted about a distressing situation involving an elderly dog that had been deprived of food and water despite being seriously ill.
With years of experience in animal rescue, GWARP noted that they had never come across a case quite as heartbreaking and unique as this one. The severity of Ayla’s condition was unlike anything they had faced before, a testament to the extreme suffering she had endured. Yet, despite the odds, they were determined to give her a fighting chance, recognizing that her story was one of extraordinary need, but also extraordinary potential.

The dog, believed to be suffering from osteosarcoma—a type of bone cancer—had been neglected for years. Tied to a short chain, it had been surviving on scraps and waste, leading to severe malnutrition and the onset of cancer.
This situation was compounded by the fact that the dog had suffered significant trauma, being repeatedly beaten by its intoxfgficated owner, as observed by the individual who reported the case.
The dog’s movement was restricted to a mere two feet due to the short length of the chain it was tethered to. When GWARP tried to rescue the dog, the owner wouldn’t allow it, insisting that the dog was his property. Consequently, the rescue team sought help from the local authorities. A member of GWARP recounted, “When we went to speak with the police, the dog almost expressed his grief audibly.

Fortunately, we were able to return with the proper documentation, after which the owner reluctantly relented, provided we didn’t pursue charges against him.”
Recognizing the critical urgency of the situation, GWARP swiftly made the dog’s immediate medical care their top priority. They knew that without prompt intervention, her chances of survival would be slim. The team acted quickly, addressing her severe malnutrition, treating the mange, and providing the essential medical attention required to stabilize her. Every step of the way, they remained focused on her well-being, knowing that her recovery depended on their quick and decisive actions. The priority wasn’t just healing her body, but ensuring she had the best chance to thrive again.
These included thorough examinations, blood tests, and an urgent amputation with tissue samples needing analysis. The rescue team remarked, “It’s a long road ahead.”

X-rays confirmed the presence of osteosarcoma, though the good news was that the cancer had not yet spread to the lungs. This gave the dog, now named Jordan, a slight chance at recovery despite the rapidly growing tumor, which was even causing skin tearing. The poor conditions were evident as the tumor increased in size each day.
To help Jordan recover physically and mentally, he was given a long, soothing bath to wash away his tumultuous past.
However, the next steps in his medical journey needed to be carried out in Turkey due to limitations in Azerbaijan. Jordan’s departure was planned for the coming days.
Once in Istanbul, Jordan underwent a comprehensive examination, including full-body X-rays under sedation, to prepare for his critical surgery. Jordan’s amputation was successful, removing the cancerous limb without any complications.

Three days post-surgery, Jordan proved to be a quick learner, adjusting rapidly to his new circumstances. He regained his appetite and eagerly enjoyed his meals.
The team encourages everyone to wish Jordan a speedy recovery and hopes for a bright future. “We all love you, Jordan,” they expressed, grateful for the progress he’s made and optimistic about the days ahead.
