Texas Volunteer Locks Eyes With Dog Scheduled For Euthanasia And Makes Life-Saving Decision
Some things are just meant to be.
When Madeline, a Texas volunteer and foster for more than fifty dogs, first locked eyes with Maya, she knew their bond would be special.
Unfortunately, the first time Madeline saw this pocket Pittie, her busy schedule with other dogs prevented her from acting. When Maya stood up on her hind paws and gave her a heart-wrenching look behind the kennel bars, all Madeline could do was walk away.
But as it turned out, this was only their first of many meetings.
It Was Meant To Be

That night, Madeline could not stop thinking about Maya. Despite the overcrowded, stressful shelter environment, this sweet Pittie still managed to wag her tail and dazzle Madeline with her sweet look.
“I tried to keep walking but she was so squinty eyed and thumping her tail so shyly that I reluctantly backtracked and obviously immediately fell in love,” the Texas volunteer shared via the Bark About It Rescue post.

Then, when Madeline heard Maya was scheduled to be euthanized, she knew she had to act.
As she was already planning a trip, Madeline asked one of her fellow volunteers, Amairany, if she could step in as a foster for Maya for a few days until she returned.
Just like that, Maya, only a few days from being put to sleep, now had a second chance…and couldn’t be more grateful! Within days, she was at Madeline and Jerred’s home, together with their other dog, Margot.

Neither her foster mama nor Maya couldn’t hide their excitement for being together.
Maya, a genuinely sweet and gentle girl, adjusted to a new environment amazingly well. She practically became the second dog they never had, and when the time came for her to say goodbye to her foster family, Madeline couldn’t stop her tears.
And yet, as a 55-time foster parent, she knew that she couldn’t fail at fostering because of other dogs in need.
The Sweetest Gift

Madeline went back and forth between sending Maya to the rescue or keeping her. When she couldn’t make the final decision, her husband, Jerred, stepped in — and brought her the sweetest gift ever!
According to Madeline’s Instagram post, Jerred showed up in their home bringing a little box with a collar and Maya’s name on it. As it turned out, he secretly already adopted this sweet pup, and wanted to surprise Madeline.
Needless to say, there were tears everywhere!
“After many discussions and cry sessions from Madeline, her husband, Jerred, decided he’d make the decision so she wouldn’t have to and gave us a call. Jerred secretly officially adopted Maya,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.

Madeline was beyond thrilled after learning that Maya was, indeed, her own dog!
“Jerred had to bear with me crying about it for weeks, and knew I was never really at peace with letting her go. I told him that whether we kept her or sent her, I just wanted it to be his fault L O L, so he made the decision so I didn’t have to and I am so glad he did,” Madeline shared on Instagram.
After so many heartbreaks of having to let Maya go, Madeline finally felt a sense of relief. Her girl was home!
Today, this rescue pup is happier than ever. She’s finally where she was always meant to be, and she couldn’t be happier.
She plays, cuddles, goes on endless adventures, enjoys the company of her furry sister, and lives the best life possible… all thanks to her amazing family!
